University of British Columbia

There are a lot of great colleges in some really wonderful locations.  Some of the University of California schools [San Diego, Santa Barbara and Santa Cruz] are in stand-out locations.  Point Loma Nazarene University is another college in a great location, overlooking the Pacific Ocean.  But one University that stands out in my mind as far as being in an exquisite location is the University of British Columbia.

Vancouver is one of my favorite cities.  It has the Canadian feel but also a strong Chinese influence.  And the setting of UBC is breathtaking, as you can see for yourself in the aerial shot of the campus.

I remember touring the campus one time and visiting the UBC Museum of Anthropology and stepping outside to this incredible vista of the Strait of Georgia leading out to the Pacific Ocean and the snow-capped mountains in the background.  I would have to say it was close to idyllic.

Of course, like all of the schools in the Pacific Northwest, you have to be okay with the Winter and its constant drizzle or rain with occasional sunbreaks.  But the University of British Columbia is one of Canada’s leading research universities and is consistently ranked among the top 40 in the world by the esteemed Shanghai rankings.

Vancouver is an international city and, if you like skiing, there is world class skiing not far away at Whistler by driving the glorious sea to sky highway built for the Winter Olympics.

UBC is a great school and offers a wide variety of academic programs.
